Luis Severino on a rehab assignment must be Somerset’s good luck charm, as he watched the Patriots throw the second no-hitter in their Yankees affiliate history on Wednesday night, a 5-0 win in Hartford in Game 2 of a Doubleheader.
Sevy had started Game 1 of the twin bill and threw four innings of two-run ball, and he watched Game 2 as Yoendrys Gomez (five innings) and Steven Jennings (two) completed a near-perfecto, the only blemish a walk issued by Gomez in the fourth.
It was exactly 13 months ago – August 8, 2021 – that Severino was the starter the first no-hitter in Somerset Patriots franchise history, throwing four perfect innings before giving way to Shawn Semple (four innings) and current Yankee Ron Marinaccio (one) to finish the job.
Even better for Somerset? It was their third straight doubleheader sweep, and they are now 8-2 in twin bills this year. The sweep also runs their record to 78-48, the best record in Double-A.
