Luis Severino's spring training start pushed back due to general soreness

Luis Severino was knocked around in his last spring start, but the prevailing tone from the Yankees has been prioritizing health over results. For Severino, who hasn’t turned in a full season since 2018, the main goal is building up strength and staying healthy for a hopeful bounceback season.

But Severino’s health has now become a concern, as the righty experienced general soreness after Saturday’s outing, and will throw a bullpen Wednesday instead of pitching against the Braves.

Boone did say that Severino is now slated to pitch on Saturday, and is currently in line to pitch the second game of the regular season.

Severino’s 2019 campaign was derailed by a lat injury, and then missed all of 2020 and nearly all of 2021 due to Tommy John surgery. His return from Tommy John was delayed due to setbacks in his recovery, but the Yankees have been hopeful that he will be healthy and ready to return to his 2017-18 form, when he was one of the top starters in the league.
