Matt Carpenter is still not in the Yankees’ starting lineup for Saturday’s game three, mainly because the DH spot is filled by Giancarlo Stanton, who is a must-have in the lineup after he hit his 10th career postseason home run in game two.
That could be avoided if Carpenter was able to play the field, but the Yanks seem reluctant to do that. Carpenter says he’s ready.
“That's a good question. You know, I'm getting reps out there,” Carpenter said. “I'm making myself available. As far as, you know, if our club feels comfortable with it is, you know, another story.
“But doing my best to make myself available.”
Carpenter struck out in a big spot as a pinch hitter on Friday, as he took his first at bat in over two months since suffering a foot fracture. But he says he felt good at the plate, and he’ll have to wait and see how many more chances he’ll get this postseason.
“Yeah. It certainly felt good to be back out there,” Carpenter said. “Would have preferred a different result. But physically I felt good, felt like I was seeing the ball well. Faced a really good pitcher who made some good pitches and was able to, you know, put an end to that rally we had going and get out of there.
“As far as how I felt and physically where I was, I felt good. I felt ready. I felt prepared. Just wasn't able to come through. Hope to get another chance.”
