As the Yankees await more news on Giancarlo Stanton, add DH to the list of question marks when it comes to the state of the Bombers lineup come Opening Day.
For Chris McMonigle, entering a season with those burning questions still ablaze, especially a season in which a World Series is the expectation, is unacceptable.
“You can’t go into a season without a third baseman, without a DH, and without a leadoff hitter,” C-Mac said.
So, if C-Mac were sitting in Brian Cashman’s chair, what would the next move be? He would call the Padres and see if they were interested in making a big trade for a second consecutive offseason, this time for perennial batting champion Luis Arraez.
“I would make that call to see if they would move him, because that solves two of my problems,” C-Mac said. “That’s my leadoff hitter and my DH.”
Arraez was linked to trade rumors for much of the offseason, but that has cooled down since he began playing in spring training games with San Diego. But C-Mac would try to reignite those trade talks, as he believes it would help the Yanks in multiple areas, even if Arraez is a liability in the field. So, third base would likely still be a question mark, but the other two unknowns would have an answer.
“He’s a terrible second baseman. You thought Gleyber Torres was bad, he is worse,” C-Mac said. “But he gets on base in front of Judge. You can play hit and run with the bottom of the order if Dominguez or Volpe are on base.
“That is the perfect option for the Yankees.”
