For the second time in four months, former Yankee Miguel Andujar has cleared waivers, with no teams willing to take the former Rookie of the Year candidate.
As a result, Andujar will be outrighted to the Pirates’ Triple-A club, where he posted solid numbers earlier in the season but hit just .161 after being called back up to the majors.
Andujar has never come close to his promising debut campaign in 2018, when he hit 27 home runs for the Bombers and finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting to Shohei Ohtani. A shoulder injury in 2019 derailed his season, and Andujar has been fighting for consistent big league playing time ever since.
The 28-year-old has hit just .237 in the big leagues since that sparkling 2018 campaign.
