Juan Soto made waves across social media with his parting comments at Thursday’s introductory press conference, as he revealed that he hasn’t spoken to any of his former Yankee teammates since the end of the World Series.
“I haven’t talked to any of those guys,” Soto said. “We talked to them through the playoffs, the end of the playoffs, but after that...I haven’t talked to any of those guys.”
Aaron Judge was asked if he had spoken to Soto after the captain received his AL MVP award, and Judge said no due to a desire to give his former teammate space as he navigated free agency. The Evan and Tiki crew came away surprised that the two stars never spoke between then and Soto agreeing to sign a record deal with the Mets.
Or that Soto hadn’t spoken with any other teammate.
“You had 25 guys who were your teammates,” Evan said. “By accident, you haven’t talked to them? I don’t know what this tells me.
“That’s cold blooded. There is a little ‘You’re dead to me in that.’ That comment makes me think that he knew he was gone.”
Morash was more critical of Judge, as he believed the captain of the team should have done more to pitch the Yankees to Soto during the early parts of the offseason, even if Soto’s decision ultimately came down to money.
“He just played for a year and finally made a World Series with this guy,” Morash said. “In this process, knowing that Aaron Judge went through this process too, as a captain...I have to at least pick up the phone and call Juan Soto.
“He’s the captain, and he himself said he wanted more of a voice in what the organization does...He dropped the ball again. I’d argue a bigger drop.”
