Nestor Cortes: 'If I have a ring and then a year off from baseball, so be it'

Nestor Cortes threw 28 pitches against Oswaldo Cabrera and Austin Wells during a live BP session at Yankee Stadium Tuesday, and while he is ‘sore’ after the outing, he still expects to be on the Yankees’ World Series roster if he comes through feeling normal tomorrow.

He hasn’t been told anything official, but Aaron Boone did say Tuesday the Yankees could carry a 13-man pitching staff, which means the team wouldn’t have to make a deletion on the staff to carry Cortes, who could match up well with a Dodgers lineup that has two lefties in the top four with Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.

And, in epic fashion, Cortes is willing to risk further injury to the flexor strain that has kept him out for over a month if it means the ultimate goal:

“We have weighed in the consequences this can lead up to, but if I have a ring and then a year off of baseball, then so be it," Cortes told the media after his live BP.
