Yankees first baseman Greg Bird is expected to receive at-bats in an extended spring training game Monday, according to manager Aaron Boone.

Bird underwent ankle surgery on March 27 and was facing a recovery timetable of 6-8 weeks. It was his second ankle surgery in two years.

Boone said the 25-year-old would need 10-14 days of rehab games before rejoining the Yankees.

In other injury news, third baseman Brandon Drury, who has been dealing with migraines and blurred vision, could return to the team as soon as this weekend, Boone said.

Drury is hitting .348 in seven games (8-for-23) at Triple-A Scranton during his rehab assignment.

Pitcher Tommy Kahnle, placed on the disabled list on April 17 with right shoulder tendinitis, has begun playing catch.

Taking a look at the farm system, Yankees top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield was promoted to Triple-A Scranton Thursday.

Sheffield went 1-2 in five starts at Double-A Trenton, but posted an ERA of 2.25 while holding opponents to a .163 batting average.

The 21-year-old racked up 39 strikeouts and 14 walks in 28.0 innings. In his most recent outing on Tuesday, Sheffield struck out nine in six shutout innings.
