C-Mac loved Wandy Peralta as a Yankee, but considering the team’s strength of building quality bullpens, not committing to Peralta for four years seems like the right move.
“I loved Wandy Peralta. Mike Tauchman for Wandy Peralta was a brilliant trade,” C-Mac said. “Peralta was a great trade. Wandy Peralta was great here. He was clutch, you could put him in any situation.
“I wanted the Yankees to re-sign him…then I saw the deal. While the money is more than reasonable, I don’t know if it’s smart to give four years to a middle reliever. As much as I love Wandy Peralta, I don’t think he’s a closer.”
Peralta is reportedly headed to San Diego on a four-year deal, and C-Mac is convinced the Yanks will be able to generate another reliever to match Peralta’s production for significantly less, and on less of a long-term commitment.
“This is what the Yankees do best,” C-Mac said. “They go out and target a guy like Wandy Peralta. They’ll go trade a lesser player in their organization for a reliever you haven’t heard of, or they’ll promote someone from within, and he’ll give you what Wandy Peralta gave you.”
