Marcus Stroman has reported to camp after missing the first two days of spring training, as there is still no resolution on trading the veteran pitcher before Opening Day.
It’s no secret that the Yanks are looking for a team willing to take on the bulk of his salary, and Chris McMonigle has one simple question for ownership as the season draws closer.
“The Yankees clearly want to trade him, and it feels like...Hal Steinbrenner doesn’t want to go over the luxury tax that much,” C-Mac said. “Stroman is making $18 million and they want to move him before they do anything.
“I don’t need an All-Star at every spot...I need a serviceable player. So to me, the question mark with Marcus Stroman is simply this to Hal Steinbrenner: If you can’t trade Stroman and have to go into the season with him as your sixth man making $18 million a year, are you willing to upgrade third base? Because it feels like he’s’ not.”
C-Mac feels no inspiration with Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, or Oswald Peraza manning the hot corner in 2025, so the idea that ownership could hold off on potentially upgrading that position due to Stroman’s contract is a big problem for C-Mac, and is the only narrative around Stroman that he cares about in 2025.
“Third base is the question mark,” C-Mac said. “And it’s tied to Marcus Stroman.”
