Aaron Hicks is reportedly on the verge of going to a Yankees divisional rival.
According to multiple reports, the longtime struggling outfielder is on the cusp of signing with the Orioles after being released by the Bombers last week. Baltimore, boasting one of the best records in baseball, finds itself in need of outfield help after star outfielder Cedric Mullins went down with a groin injury while running out a ground ball in the eighth inning on Monday.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Orioles could “move quickly” to add Hicks, who was DFAd by New York despite still being signed through 2025, as he was batting just .188 on the season and just .209 over the past three seasons.
Hicks had become a target of consistent boos among Yankee fans before he was let go by the team, and now may have a chance to stick it to his former club with the Orioles holding off the Yankees in the AL East standings.
