The Philadelphia Phillies have designated Neil Walker for assignment.
The 35-year-old Walker will be replaced with Ronald Torreyes, who was selected from the Phillies alternate training site.
Walker struggled at the plate this year with a .231 batting average in 39 at-bats. He had nine hits with three doubles and three RBI.
With a strong and young infield, Walker, who just celebrated his birthday on Thursday, didn’t get much playing time in Philadelphia.
Both Walker and Torreyes, or "Walk" and "Toe" as they were called by then-Yankees and now-Phillies manager Joe Girardi, were fan favorites in pinstripes. Walker, who hit .275 in parts of two seasons with the Mets as well, hit .219 with 11 homers as a versatile member of the 2018 Yankees; Torreyes was an up-and-down utilityman known more for his glove and his "Toe-Night Show" in the dugout, but he too was productive at the plate, hitting .281 in 221 games between 2016-18.
