The Yankees had two updates on players with hand injuries after Monday’s win over the Phillies, and one was, unfortunately, better than the other.
Miguel Andujar has a muscle strain in his right hand and “a little bit of nerve issue” according to manager Aaron Boone, and treatment for that continues to be rest and just monitoring the nerve issue as physicians try to get to the bottom of it.
On the flip side, catcher Robinson Chirinos will have surgery on Tuesday to repair his fractured right wrist, and manager Aaron Boone said he believes it’s a “four to six week timetable” but the team will know more when he gets through surgery.
Andujar has not played since last Wednesday and is just 2-for-15 this spring, so his chances of making the Opening Day roster seem to get slimmer as time winds down in camp. Chirinos was 1-for-5 this spring (the one hit a solo home run) before he was hit by a pitch in that same game last Wednesday.
