The Early Baseball Era and the Golden Days Era ballots have been released by the Baseball Hall of Fame, and each era includes a notable former Yankee.
Formerly known as the Veterans Committee, the Early Baseball and Golden Days Committees vote on potential Hall of Famers no longer on the typical ballot voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Last year, the Veterans Committee voted in Ted Simmons and Marvin Miller.
This year, the Early Baseball Era includes former Yankee great Allie Reynolds, who pitched 1,700 innings from 1947 to 1954 in pinstripes. Part of a Yankee dynasty that won five straight World Series, Reynolds logged a 3.30 ERA as a Yankee, a .686 winning percentage, and was a five-time All-Star. He led the league in ERA (2.06), shutouts (6) and strikeouts (160) in a dominant 1952 season.
In the Golden Days Era, Roger Maris finds himself on the ballot. Most known for breaking Babe Ruth’s isngle-season home run record in 1961, Maris won back-to-back MVPs and earned four straight All-Star selections from 1959 to 1962. Over his 12-year career, Maris hit 275 home runs and batted .260 with an .822 OPS.
Other notable names include Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat and Minnie Minoso.
