Ron Marinaccio turned into a revelation for the Yankee bullpen last season, but was unable to be a factor in the postseason after suffering a shin injury down the stretch of the regular season.
The righty told Brendan Kuty of The Athletic on Thursday that he is still working his way back from that injury, but believes he will be ready for Opening Day next month.
Marinaccio says he has thrown off a mound “a few times” so far in his rehab, as he works to get back to 100 percent from the shin issue that had first flared up earlier in the season, then was reaggravted shortly before the postseason.
A healthy Marinaccio would be a big boost for the Yankee bullpen, as he posted a 2.05 ERA with a 30.9 percent strikeout rate in 44 innings last year, and could be the next Yankee product to emerge as a bullpen staple.
