Both Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge homered on Monday night when the two MVP candidates faced off, and Judge went deep again on Tuesday night.
Many still say Ohtani should win a second straight MVP because of his ability to hit and pitch at a high level, but Sal and Jerry agree that the easy choice is Judge.
“It’s Most Valuable Player. How can Shohei Ohtani be the Most Valuable Player on a team that sucks?” Sal said. “If your team doesn’t win, how can you be valuable since they can lose without you?
“This is Aaron Judge’s award. If you take Judge off the Yankees, they may not be in first place. How is he not the most valuable player? Because he doesn’t pitch? Give me a break, I don’t care. Ohtani only pitches once every five days anyway, and it doesn’t matter because the team always loses.”
Simply put, both Sal and Jerry don’t think the debate should be nearly as spirited as it currently is, and Judge, who owns a slight 7.7 to 7.2 edge over Ohtani in the WAR department, should earn the award when the season comes to an end.
“Judge is the MVP,” Sal said bluntly.
