Sal: Brian Cashman sounds like he's weighing if Yankees would be better off selling at deadline
After hearing Brian Cashman talk with reporters about the Yankees’ struggles and the team’s needs heading towards the trade deadline, BT was convinced that the general manager sounded motivated to attack the trade market and bring in some notable additions to avoid an all-out collapse.
“To me, he sounds very motivated that he knows this ain’t it,” BT said.
BT believes Cashman was foreshadowing some “monumental” moves to get the team back to where it was to start the season, but Sal came away with a different message from Cashman. He believes the Yanks could even pivot to the point where they become sellers at the end of the month.
“I think he’s still trying to figure out if he’s gonna be buyers or sellers here,” Sal said. “I really do believe that. how are you gonna fix this?
“He knows they need to make major changes…but that doesn’t mean they’re gonna be additions to help this team this year. How? How are you going to get this turned around with this team? If it was just the offense, I’d say they can add 2-3 pieces and figure it out…it’s that plus the starting rotation plus the bullpen. Anything else?”
Cashman has had some notable deadline misses in recent years, from Joey Gallo to Frankie Montas, leading Sal to wonder if Cashman would even be able to turn things around if the Yankees become aggressive deadline buyers.
“Why would we trust that Brian Cashman is going to do something different to fix it?” Sal said.
