Sal calls out Yankees for struggling against top competition so far this season

The Yankees are in first place in the AL East and hold the best record in the American League, but after coughing up a three-run lead in the ninth inning against the AL West leading Mariners on Monday night, Sal says the Bombers seem to have one major flaw.

They still don’t get it done against their top competition for a pennant this year.

“They’ve lost three of four to the Orioles, and lost last night to the Mariners,” Sal said. “I feel like there’s something off. There’s something missing with this Yankee team. Yeah, they’re great, but why do they keep losing to the only good teams they play?

“They beat the Tigers and White Sox with ease…they played four games against Baltimore. How’d they do?”

The Yankees are 12-8 against teams above .500, but in their lone series against a top competitor in the AL so far this season, they dropped three of four in Camden Yards to the O’s. Sal says, if the Yankees want to accomplish their goal of winning a World Series, they have to start showing that they can hit against good pitching, and beat the best teams.

“They played two good teams all year long and lost four of five to them!” Sal said.

“Is it a coincidence that Clay Holmes has his worst outing of the year against the Mariners? Is it a coincidence that Carlos Rodon has his worst start of the year against Baltimore?”
