The Yankees offense once again looked anemic without Aaron Judge in Sunday night’s loss to the Red Sox, but the team was also without their other dynamic slugger.
But, by all accounts, Giancarlo Stanton is healthy, just getting a day off before a scheduled day off, as Aaron Boone has liked to take advantage of to get his veterans an extra day of rest.
Sal Licata says, especially with Judge on the IL, Stanton getting that kind of rest is unacceptable.
“It’s an off day [Monday]. Why is Stanton not in that lineup?” Sal said. “What is Boone doing? How is that even possible?
“Are you paying him to play or to rest? Look at your lineup! You need him! He kills Boston historically as well. Get him in there, he’s been resting all season long! Come on. He’s a DH! He doesn’t have to play, he just has to hit.”
Stanton recently returned from his own IL stint, but Sal says as a steady DH, Stanton shouldn’t be needing that kind of rest, and the Yankees need him badly right now.
“There is no excuse for that. None,” Sal said. “Stanton has been out two months, he comes back, is a DH, and is getting a day off the day before an off day! That is asinine by Aaron Boone.”
