Sal has been calling out the Yankees for much of the offseason for not continuing an all-in push after acquiring Juan Soto, and now, he wonders how much longer Brian Cashman can keep his job if notable additions don’t pan out.
Specifically Carlos Rodon, who was signed to a $162 million deal last winter.
“That has to be the last straw,” Sal said. “If Rodon is a bust, how do you justify keeping him on?”
Rodon was awful for the Yanks in an injury-riddled debut season, the latest big addition to not pan out in recent years. Others include Josh Donaldson, Frankie Montas, and Joey Gallo. Sal says an entire generation of Yankee fans doesn’t have the memories of the team winning World Series after World Series with Cashman as the GM, and his good faith is wearing off.
“This isn’t ‘All in’ Yankees. This is same old Yankees,” Sal said. “Those fans aren’t that young anymore. The younger Yankee fan, you’re talking about 24 years, they’ve won the one World Series since 2000.”
