Sal laughs at idea that Giancarlo Stanton's return will spark Yankees turnaround
As the Yankee offense outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto continues to look feeble, Sal can’t help but laugh at the idea that Giancarlo Stanton working his way back from a calf injury will be the difference that gets the Yanks back on track.
“Look how desperate that sounds - ‘Oh, Giancarlo Stanton is coming back soon.’ Big deal!” Sal said. “If you’re relying that much on Giancarlo Stanton, you don’t have that good of a team. I’m sorry.
“You know what’s gonna happen? Stanton is gonna come back, he’ll be cold for a while, maybe he’ll hit his hot streak, and then guess what? He’s gonna get hurt again, because he always does.”
Stanton had been healthy before his calf injury, and producing much-needed power in the middle of the Yankee lineup. Since he hit the IL, the offense has cratered, though it is more due to the prolonged slumps of Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo, and the continued malaise of Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu. With all of those issues in the lineup, Sal says this Yankees team isn’t worth going all in for at the trade deadline.
“Why would you invest further in a team that is sinking?” Sal said. “I’m not throwing money or prospects to try to save a team that I don’t believe in.”
