Frankie Montas struggled again in his latest Yankees start, allowing three home runs in a 4-3 loss to kick-start a road series with the Angels, and Sal had a blunt assessment of the new Yankees starter.
“Montas sucks,” Sal said. “He sucks, sorry. Nothing personal, he’s just terrible.”
Montas is now pitching to a 7.01 ERA since being traded to New York, allowing 20 runs over 25.2 innings of work after posing a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts with the A’s.
Montas insists he hasn’t changed anything since coming over from Oakland, even suggesting he may also be running into some bad luck, but Sal said it’s more because the righty is just plain bad.
“He might be great as a person. I don’t know him. But his performance on the field isn’t good,” Sal said. “He’s terrible.”
