Sal: Juan Soto isn't the difference between an 82-win team and a World Series

Sal and C-Mac got into a heated debate about the outlook for the Yankees in 2024, specifically when C-Mac declared that the Bombers are a World Series contender.

“Get out of here,” Sal said.

“Oh, please,” C-Mac replied. “The Yankees are 100 percent, undeniably good enough to win the World Series…They’re good enough to win a championship. There’s no doubt about it.”

Sal said it would be “generous” to rank the Yanks fourth in the American League, but C-Mac has New York firmly in the top three.

“On paper, it’s fair to rank them third,” C-Mac said. “Until they beat the Astros, I can’t put them ahead of the Astros. The Orioles have put together a young team and won 100-plus games last year. I don’t expect the Rangers to be as good this year. I put them ahead of the Rangers.”

Sal wanted to know what would catapult the Yanks from an 82-win team last season to the third-best team in the American League in 2024, and C-Mac responded with Juan Soto. Sal still wasn’t buying it.

“Juan Soto is not the difference between the World Series and 82 games…I am sure about that,” Sal said. “How did Juan Soto do in that loaded Padres lineup? How did the team do?

“I’m not saying you don’t take him. I’m saying you needed more.”
