Sal: Anthony Volpe has become Yankees' third best, and most important, player in lineup

Anthony Volpe was hitless in the Yankees’ win over the Orioles on Tuesday, but he is still batting .355 with a .985 OPS over his last 19 games, a drastic improvement from his slow start to the season.

With Volpe starting to hit, Sal says the rookie shortstop is now one of the team’s best, and most important, players in the lineup in 2023.

“If you look at the importance to their season so far, who are their three important, best players so far, I look at this team, Judge is it, Bader is No. 2, and Volpe is three,” Sal said. “I said this even when he was hitting .190. I see him as a difference maker for this team, specifically in the postseason, and now you’re starting to see it. so, when I look at their most important position players, I look at Judge, Bader, and Volpe.”

C-Lo and Jerry countered with Anthony Rizzo or Gleyber Torres as candidates to join the list alongside Judge and Bader, but Sal is sticking with Volpe. He is also singing the praises of the player who Volpe took the starting shortstop job from.

“I love guys who excel at their role,” Sal said. “Isiah Kiner-Falefa has done his job arguably better or as well as anyone else on the entire Yankee team.”
