Sal Licata says now is the time that he should get to the sportsbooks and place a bet on the Yankees to win their 28th World Series title.
Sure, the team is in last place, but after what Sal saw against the Rays this past weekend, and the reinforcements that have started to return, he sees only improvements for the Bombers from here on out.
“The Yankees, who have been hit much harder by injury, still win games, and they’re in a much tougher division [than the Mets],” Sal said. “The Yankees are still able to maintain…and you just know, when the Yankees start to get healthy, they’re gonna take off.
“Even though it was a crushing defeat on Sunday, and I was stunned Gerrit Cole blew that lead…I came away thinking the Yankees are a better team than the Rays. The Rays can get out to that historic start, but the Yankees are the better team.”
So, if you want to get some good odds on a good bet, Sal says to put some money down on the Yanks winning it all, because aside from the Rays, the American League doesn’t have any clear juggernauts at the moment, as the typically superior Astros have injuries of their own while floating around .500.
“Now’s the time, because it’s probably not gonna get any worse for the Yankees,” Sal said. “This will probably be the low water mark the rest of the way.
“Cashman is right. Don’t be counting them out.”
