Sal all in on Yankees in 2023: 'This is the year'

Sal Licata is all in on the Yankees ending their World Series drought in 2023, especially seeing a lineup with numerous replacement players put up 10 runs in three straight games this week.

"What more do you need to see from a team that continues to score runs with guys that look like they belong in the Scranton lineup?" Sal said. "We said it was a laughable lineup. Willie Calhoun batting third? Greg Allen? Who the hell is Greg Allen? What more do you need to see?

"This, on top of the Rays’ incredible start to the season and the Yankees being banged up…how the hell are they doing it with these guys in the lineup? And to think they’re gonna get Giancarlo Stanton back in that lineup."

The offense was finally silenced in Wednesday's series finale, though that was more due to George Kirby looking dominant and pounding the corners through eight sparkling innings, but even still, the Yankees have posted the best record in baseball over the last month, and Sal says it will get even better by October.

"This is the year," Sal said. "It’s another year where Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone have been doubted, by loud-mouthed fools like yours truly, but still…it doesn’t matter. The Yankees, even when things look awful, they beat the Guardians two out of three and play with an edge in Tampa and turn their season around, and it’s been terrific baseball ever since.

"I really think they’re gonna do it. I’ve always felt since 2017 that Aaron Judge would, at the very least, carry the Yankees to a World Series, and I feel it now more than ever."
