Sal: Yankees acting as 'clueless' as Wilpon Mets or Jets and Knicks at their lowest

Sal Licata has held his belief that the Yankees aren’t dead and buried just yet, but he ripped the organization for trying to give Luis Severino another chance in critical games, the latest gaffe in a long line of questionable decisions made in recent years.

“There is no way you can justify pitching Luis Severino at any point,” Sal said. “Yet the Yankees, who are as clueless of an organization as there is in this town, which is hard to believe - they used to be the gold standard, now they’re operating like the Mets before Cohen, even worse. Like the Jets at their worst. Like the Knicks for 20 years. That’s how bad it is with the Yankees.

“Brian Cashman left this team for dead at the trade deadline. They needed to upgrade this team, and he knew more than most. You mean to tell me they didn’t have an inkling that Domingo German might have a problem, or he wasn’t aware Luis Severino might not have it anymore? Is he watching these games?”

Sal would go as far as to say that Cashman is operating like he wants his tenure as Yankees GM to be over, despite recent reports that his job for next year is safe.

“It really makes you question if he cares. Is he trying to get fired?” Sal said. “‘What do I have to do to get Hal to fire me?’ Let’s throw Luis Severino out there, even though I know he is going to get tattooed.

“The Yankees have had one misstep after another…they are not acting like an organization that has a freaking clue how to build a winning team.”
