The Yankees found a way to pick up an improbable win on Tuesday night, showing the upstart Orioles that the Bombers are still a force in the AL East with a walk-off victory.
For Sal Licata, the Yankees continue to find ways to win games, and with their recent hot streak, they are showing something special so far in May.
“This reminds me of the dynasty Yankees,” Sal said. “I’m not saying this team is on the level of that…but there are great signs for this Yankees team, overcoming what they’ve overcome so far to this point. Getting [Harrison] Bader back, getting [Aaron] Judge back, and having these incredible wins.
“That’s what I mean by a vintage Yankee performance. Earlier in the year, they looked lifeless…that was not the case [Tuesday], and it hasn’t been the case recently. You believe they’re going to find a way.”
The Yanks fell behind early with their ace on the mound, but clawed back to tie the game, and after falling behind again, Aaron Judge tied it in the bottom of the ninth before Anthony Volpe walked it off with a sac fly in the 10th. With a superstar in Judge and an exciting rookie shortstop contributing to a big win, Sal likes the vibes in the Bronx right now.
“They give their best shot against the Yankees best, and they still can’t get it done,” Sal said of the O’s. “They gotta be thinking, ‘Man, it’s gonna be impossible to win here’ after a game like this.’ Maybe you have that Yankee Stadium aura coming back into play a little bit. I just feel like we’re watching a different type of ballclub.”
