Sal says Brian Cashman better take blame for Yankees predicament: 'Convicted! Guilty!'

Sal Licata says Brian Cashman didn’t have to place the blame on himself during Wednesday’s interview with reporters, mainly because he should have been facing all the blame from the start.

“So Brian Cashman says, ‘If you want to convict somebody, convict me.’ Convicted! Guilty!” Sal said. “You’re the one who put together this slop of a baseball team, so we’ll convict you, as I’ve been doing for awhile.

“This is not on Aaron Boone’s management skills, although there leaves a lot to be desired in that regard. This is on the construction of this team.”

Still, Sal says Cashman was right about one thing: the Yankees shouldn’t be counted out, as they’ve shown an innate ability in the past to weather a load of injuries and still come out on the other side with a postseason berth.

“Brian Cashman is right…’Don’t count us out.’ Because even when the Yankees lose, they win,” Sal said. “You get guys hurt all over the place, you play lousy baseball from the most part, and they still win a series.

“This is what the Yankees do. It is amazing how even when things are awful…they still win 90-plus games, and I’m sure it’ll be the same this year.”

However, those injuries that the Bombers continuously have to deal with? That is Cashman’s fault in the first place.

“Every team has injuries. I don’t want to hear about the injuries,” Sal said. “It’s the same old story with the Yankees. Who brought in Giancarlo Stanton, who can never stay healthy? Who brought in Carlos Rodon? Where is he? [Luis] Severino? Always hurt. [Harrison] Bader? Always hurt.”
