Sal says Giancarlo Stanton is 'washed up,' can't be Yankees cleanup hitter

Sal praised the Yankees for their fight to come back and win Opening Day on Thursday, but he says something has to be done about the hole in the middle of the lineup.

That hole, in Sal’s eyes, is Giancarlo Stanton.

“There were a lot of great signs from the Yankees yesterday,” Sal said. “However, there were also some not-so-great signs.

“He’s washed up. Rolling everything over, just not good swings at all.”

Stanton’s lone hit was a slow roller down the third base line that hit the bag for an infield single. But he also struck out twice, both against lefties (usually his bread and butter), and looked particularly overmatched against star closer Josh Hader.

Sal says it should be the end of Stanton as an everyday player.

“Could he hit some missiles still? Sure,” Sal said. “But you can’t have him hitting cleanup.”
