Blake Snell has reportedly signed with the Giants, and while Sal still believes that the Yankees are not all in without another big addition to the starting rotation, he believes they dodged a bullet by not bringing in the reigning NL Cy Young winner.
“The Yankees are better off without Blake Snell,” Sal said. “I understand the appeal…but after thinking about it, as the offseason played on…I don’t feel like his top priority and passion is to be a pitcher in the major leagues. I wouldn’t give him a cent.
“I think the Yankees are better off without him.”
Sal would have preferred the Yankees to make a trade splash for Corbin Burnes, but now, as it seems like the rotation is set, he does have excitement over one internal option that could potentially help mask the absence of Gerrit Cole until he is able to return.
“I’m excited about Luis Gil…he’s as nasty as they come,” Sal said. “He’s a guy you give them credit for not trading him. I’m surprised they were able to keep him in the Juan Soto deal.”
