Are the Yankees the Scut Farkas of MLB?
It’s not Christmas time so the “A Christmas Story” reference isn’t in season, but in his solo show on Friday, Sal Licata was talking about the Bombers’ swoon, and it seems that maybe, just maybe, the Yankees are the typical bully who rules the roost until someone punches them in the mouth?
“This is what typical bullies look like. I do think ultimately, the Yankees will be fine; big picture, they're gonna make the playoffs, and they’re going to be judged on what they do in the postseason,” Sal said. “But they have proven to be, year-after-year, dominant in the regular season, and then nothing in the postseason – bullies in the regular season and then cowards in the postseason.”
So yes, they’re still one of the top teams in the AL and every win counts the same…but come October, is there any reason to believe they’ll win the 11 or 13 games necessary to parade down the Canyon of Heroes?
“Based on what we've seen already in these last few weeks, there's no reason to believe that it will be any different come this October, and that's the alarming thing,” Sal said. “Aaron Boone is right when he says that they’ll be okay and this is a little blip on the radar – that may be true, but the Yankees are being exposed now. Their flaws, even for being a very good team, are being exposed to a point where I can't trust them come October. The signs are there that this team yet again has a glass jaw.”
