Sal: Yankees title in 2024 would be 'greatest victory bow' Brian Cashman will ever take

Sal believes it is World Series or bust for the Yankees in 2024, and if they are able to win a title for the first time since 2009, he says the often-criticized general manager better receive his flowers.

“If the Yankees do win the World Series, this will be the greatest victory bow Brian Cashman will ever have taken,” Sal said.

“We were all saying the same thing: ‘Fire Cashman’ this, ‘Fire Cashman’ that, ‘He can’t do the job, change everybody.’ He stood pat with some guys we wanted out of here, Giancarlo Stanton front and center. But they also made key additions. Not just getting the big names like Soto. Alex Verdugo has been a huge piece of the puzzle. Marcus Stroman has done a nice job.”

Sal, like many Yankee fans, were critical of Hal Steinbrenner extending Cashman when his contract was up after the 2021 season, believing change was needed in the front office. But right now, Cashman’s offeason looks like a brilliant one, and he will be deserving of even more praise if the Yankees end their title drought this year.

“I didn’t think they did enough in the offseason,” Sal said. “So far, they’ve done it just right. They are a machine right now.”
