With Aaron Judge facing injury concerns a week before Opening Day, Sal wonders if the Yankees could already be feeling buyer’s remorse about the $360 million they gave to Judge after his historic 2022 season.
“Let me be clear for you knuckleheads who can’t understand or don’t listen to what I’m saying: I love Aaron Judge as a player,” Sal said. “Nobody would ever dispute his production. You know he can handle this market. The guy literally broke a record here a couple seasons ago.
“However, nine years, $360 million. We’re just getting going here….year two. Year one he played 106 games…again, going into Opening Day, he’s got issues that don’t have anything to do with the toe that he’s gonna have to maintain.
“Buyer’s remorse here potentially? I’d be worried about that contract long term.”
Judge is already 31 years old, and while his injuries are a concern, his production has been undeniable. His numbers last season rivaled his incredible 2022 season before his toe injury, and remains one of the most feared hitters in baseball. But Sal says it is likely only going to get worse for Judge as he ages, and it has to be a concern for the Yankees to be dealing with these issues after just one season since signing their homegrown star to a massive contract.
