Sal: Yankees look like a team that would win it all if playoffs were starting
Sal couldn’t have drawn up a much better start to the season for the Yankees, and says the 2024 Bombers are already looking like a team that has the makeup to make a deep run come October.
“The only negative is it’s April and not October,” Sal said. “It wasn’t just Juan Soto. We felt the Soto impact, of course…the majority of Yankees in that lineup fought. They respected every single at-bat. The care, the effort, the passion, the grind. That’s sustainable…it’s not just about the results. It’s how they did it. They did it without Gerrit Cole, without Nestor Cortes at his best.
“We haven’t seen this from a Yankee team in years. Even teams that have gotten to American League Championship Series, they haven’t shown that fight.”
The Yankees have been praised this weekend for looking completely different from the 2023 squad that won just 82 games, and Sal says it isn’t just the addition of Soto. The difference can be felt throughout the lineup.
“Start the postseason now! The Yankees would win the World Series if they started it now,” Sal said. “Tell me it doesn’t feel like they can do something special. Tell me they don’t seem like they’re on a mission.”
