Players like Juan Soto aren’t available on the trade market very often. The Washington Nationals star reportedly turned down a recent contract extension and the club is entertaining offers for the outfielder.
When a superstar like Soto is available, you know the New York Yankees are going to be in the conversation.
Not only do the Yankees already have two of the best outfielders in baseball in Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, but they also have a trio of top prospects as well.
Anthony Volpe is the Yankees' top prospect and ranked eighth among the entire league on MLB.com's top 100 prospects list. Oswald Peraza and Jasson Dominguez are also in the top 40 at 38th and 39th, respectively.
Some Yankees fans aren't ready to give up those prospects for Soto, however. Ryan and Shaun Chichester discussed a potential Soto trade on Audacy’s Bomber Brothers podcast.
“You give up all of them for Soto. Volpe, Dominguez, Peraza. All of their ceilings, all of their absolute best possible outcomes aren’t even what Juan Soto is,” Ryan said (1:04 in player above).
“He’s one of the best players in the league and he’s not even in his prime. He’s 23 years old. He’s already been in the league five years, is one of the best in baseball, and is younger than Judge was when he came into the league. He’s not comparable to any other previous superstar on the trading block.”
The idea of the Nationals even considering to trade Soto is perplexing. He is in fact one of the best players in the league and he’s only going to get better.
“You’ve got a player who at 23 years old already has two Silver Sluggers, a World Series ring, a batting title, he’s going to win an MVP at some point,” he continued.
Soto added to his legacy by winning the Home Run Derby on Monday night.
“You absolutely trade all of your top prospects for him. I don’t care how highly-ranked your top prospect is… You have a sure-thing superstar who is now available to go get and would be under team control for the next two-and-a-half years. This is a no-brainer.”
