Steve Somers joined Keith McPherson during Monday night’s show to preview the Subway Series, and in classic Steve fashion, he came out flying with the descriptive metaphors to explain the outlook for both New York teams in 2023.
He saved some of his best for the scuffling Yankees, who look lost offensively without Aaron Judge.
“The last hit that Rizzo got, he was a member of the Chicago Cubs. True or false?” Steve said, noting the struggles of Anthony Rizzo since injuring his neck.
“The last two hits the Yankees got? Carlos Rodon hitting Willie Calhoun in live batting practice, and a John Sterling hit by foul ball.”
He didn’t spare the Mets, either, who limp into the Subway Series also without their best player, and having lost a series to the Pirates after a nightmarish sweep at the hands of the rival Braves.
“No Judge, no Alonso, have a Subway sandwich instead,” Steve said. “These teams are so far down, they have to look up to see the bottom.”
