Yankees, Mets release 2022 schedules

Major League Baseball has released its 2022 schedule, and the Mets open up against the Nationals at home on March 31.

New York was supposed to begin this season with Washington, but the entire series was postponed due to COVID-19 cases within the Nationals clubhouse. Come next year, the two teams will play each other seven times over the first nine games of the season, as the Mets will head to Washington for a four-game set following a quick two-game home series against the Braves after hosting the Nationals to start the season.

The Mets will play American League West teams in interleague play next season, starting with a three-game series against the Mariners at home on May 13. Their next American League opponent will be against Shohei Ohtani and the Angels on June 10, the conclusion of a 10-game west coast trip, and then the Astros at home on June 28 and 29.

The Yankees come to town for two games on July 26 and 27 before the Mets head to the Bronx for a pair on Aug. 22 and 23. The regular season concludes with a three-game set in Atlanta, finishing up on Oct. 2.

The Yanks also open their season on March 31, beginning on the road against the Rangers. Their home opener will come on April 7 against the Red Sox after playing a three-game set against the Astros, marking two straight series against a hated rival.

Interleague play for the Yankees begins with the Reds on July 12, and their big west coast swing comes in late August and early September when they travel to face the A’s and Angels before heading back east to visit the Rays in an extended road swing.

Aside from a trio of series against the Pirates, Brewers and Twins, the Yankees’ entire September schedule comes against AL East teams, finishing at home against the Orioles. A potentially big four-game series at home against Boston will run from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25.
