Tiki and Tierney react to Brian Cashman's Astros comments: 'We don't want to hear this'

Brian Cashman seemed to point the finger at the cheating Astros when asked by The Athletic about the Yankees’ World Series drought, which could reach 13 years if they don’t reach the Fall Classic this season.

Cashman said Houston’s sign-stealing scandal should be considered before criticizing the Yanks for one of their longest title droughts in franchise history, as the Bombers lost to those Astros in the ALCS twice in a three-year span, just before the trash-banging antics came to light.

Many on social media didn’t want to hear the general manager’s excuses, and Tierney was among them, whether his points have validity or not.

“Forget about he moves he has made or not made…this is about Brian Cashman’s selective memory,” Tierney said during Thursday’s show. “Do I have to remind everybody, most notably Brian Cashman, that Jason Giambi was here for seven years…A-Rod was here for 12 years, he spearheaded the title run in 09, Roger Clemens was here for five years, who won a Cy Young…Andy Pettitte was popped for HGH, Cano, who knows what he was dabbling with back then.

“Listen, Brian, we don’t want to hear this, man. To me, this is a mistake. I know what he’s trying to do, and he’s not wrong pertaining to the Astros, but he forgot about his house when he brought up the Astros.”

Tiki understood the frustration, considering the Yanks came oh-so-close to the Fall Classic twice, before being denied by the Astros, who received plenty of public criticism from the Yankees after their cheating ways were revealed.

“I kind of agree with what his premise was,” Tiki said. “That team had a 3-2 lead over the Astros, and the circumstances were so egregious…he’s absolutely right in what he’s saying, but it doesn’t change the fact that Yankees fans haven’t seen a World Series game since 2009.”

The Yanks did have a 3-2 lead over Houston, though it was the offense that sputtered when the series shifted back to Houston in 2017, managing just one run over the final two games of the series. Still, many thought that was the start of the Yankees contending for World Series again, and they have yet to come closer than that surprising 2017, which Tierney says should be the focus.

“If he’s telling us he drafted and developed well in 2017, then why didn’t they win championships in 2018, 2019, 2020, or 2021?” Tierney said.

The Yanks have continued to finish further from a World Series than those 2017 and 2019 teams, and with Opening Day just a week away, the team has plenty of question marks. Tierney would rather see those questions addressed than bringing up feuds from five years ago.

“You know what I want to hear Cashman say a week before Opening Day?” Tierney said. “We are busting our hump to get another pitcher.”
