The Yankees are riding their worst losing streak in 28 years, and many are calling for major change within the organization.
According to reports, Brian Cashman isn’t going anywhere, and Tiki doesn’t believe the manager should either.
“I think he should stay,” Tiki said of Aaron Boone. “As much as I want to blame him, because there is a lack of accountability…but I also know he needs to be given the benefit of the doubt for the success he’s had - not in the postseason - but this is the first time in the regular season that it has looked anemic, especially in crunch time when every game matters. This is the first time that we’ve seen this from Aaron Boone.
“As much as I want to blame him, I have to say, ‘OK, we’ll forgive you for this one, let’s get to next season.’”
Tiki doesn’t believe in making a change just for the sake of saying you did it, and doesn’t believe a new manager will fix any of the Yankees’ problems, especially when considering that Cashman will still be the GM.
“What do you do? You fire Aaron Boone, and then what?” Tiki said. “Who are you bringing in that is all of a sudden going to make Giancarlo Stanton healthy and hustle more? Who is making Nestor Cortes pitch more than the 50 innings he will pitch this season? How is another manager changing the real issue? What does the next manager do that Aaron Boone is not?”
