It is amazing what an 11-game winning streak can do for a manager.
The Yankees’ recent hot streak has them in the top wild-card spot and four games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East after looking dead in the water by the All-Star break.
And while there is still plenty of baseball left to be played, at least one former Yankee great believes that manager Aaron Boone has done enough to save his job.

“I think he’s done a great job all year,” Tino Martinez told TMZ Sports on Wednesday. “The ups and downs of a season make a great manager and he’s been even-keeled the whole time.”
Martinez knows a thing or two about great managers, playing for Joe Torre and winning four World Series rings with the Yankees dynasty of the late 90s.
But Boone, now in his fourth season as manager, has failed to lead the Yankees to an AL pennant and the team looked to be in danger of missing the playoffs entirely for the first time in his tenure until their recent 11-game winning streak.
Yet, Martinez strongly feels Boone is the guy for the job.
“He’s great for the team, the organization,” Martinez said. “So I think he deserves to be here as long as he wants.”
