Bay Area sports fans can dream, right?
Before Monday night’s matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints, reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge shared a quick chat with Bucs quarterback Tom Brady. Just a couple of California boys having a good time, while letting the wheels spin for Giants and 49ers fans alike.
The Bucs and Brady both shared videos of the brief interaction in the tunnel, when the QB joked with Judge -- who was wearing a Mike Evans jersey -- and asked him if he wanted to play tight end. George Kittle, you’ve been warned.
While baseball fans are wondering if Judge will leave the Bronx Bombers and move closer to home to play for the Giants, the team he rooted for as a kid, football fans are wondering if Brady will end up in a Niners uniform next season. Not to mention that Brady and the Bucs are coming to Santa Clara to play the 49ers on Sunday.
The Judge-to-San Francisco rumors are heating up as MLB’s executives are currently gathered in San Diego for the annual winter meetings. Meanwhile, many are wondering if Jimmy Garoppolo’s season-ending foot injury last week has opened the door for the 49ers to pursue Brady this offseason and bring the NFL’s greatest quarterback back home to the Bay Area.
Judge hails from Linden, Calif., which is just east of Stockton, while Brady is a proud alum of Serra High School in San Mateo, which also produced Giants legend Barry Bonds.
The Giants hosted Judge for a visit last week and Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi recently told reporters he’s happy with where his team stands. Meanwhile, the 49ers will have a lot to consider this offseason, with both Garoppolo and Trey Lance coming off season-ending surgeries, and Jimmy G entering free agency again.
For now, a homecoming for Judge and Brady is just a pipe dream for Bay Area fans, but stay tuned to see if it becomes a reality.
