Evan Roberts has been singing the praises of Matt Carpenter for a long time, especially so since the Yankees signed him on Thursday – and now, Matty Carp is a true Bronx Bomber!
Carpenter made his Yankees debut just hours after signing on Thursday, pressed into emergency DH duty when Aaron Hicks was scratched, and he went was 0-for-2 with a walk, a hit by pitch, and two runs scored.
Friday night saw Carpenter as the designated hitter once again, and he lived up to the second half of that job title with his first Yankees hit: a solo shot to right field at the Trop!
That’s No. 156 of his career for Carpenter, and one of hopefully quite a few more in (nominal) pinstripes!
