In Wednesday’s edition of “bald-faced truth or bald-faced lie,” fellow baldies BT and Sal debated whether or not Giancarlo Stanton would join the exclusive 500 home run club by the time he calls it a career.
The Yankee slugger is now exactly 100 away from that milestone after hitting No. 400 on Tuesday night, and BT and Sal are on opposite sides when predicting whether he will slug another 100 or not.
“Forget about getting to 500 as a Yankee,” BT said. “I don’t see him getting to 500 at all. I don’t think his body will hold up. He’s one groin away from missing 90 games, or one hammy away from missing three months.
“I’m not rooting against it, I’m just hoping it’s in a different uniform. But I’ll say bald-faced lie.”
Stanton has four years left on his current deal, and if he can average 25 home runs a year, he will make it to 500 before that contract is over. Sal says Stanton gets there and joins the 28 others who currently sit in the 500 homer club.
“One hundred home runs for him. Twenty a year for the next five years, he could do that,” Sal said. “I’m gonna go bald-faced truth. It may not be here…but he will hit 500 career home runs.”
