Yankee fans were left with a lot of questions for new bench coach Brad Ausmus after he praised Aaron Boone’s in-game decisions.
During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Ausmus told reporters that he was drawn to working with Boone because he had never seen Boone make a move in a game that made Ausmus “wrinkle my brow.”
“He never made a move where I said, ‘Well that didn’t make sense,’” Ausmus said. “Or ‘Why is he doing that?’ Nothing ever stood out there.”
Yankee fans quickly responded with heavy scepticism or sarcasm, wondering if Ausmus was actually watching Boone work over the years, as fans have heavily criticized Boone’s lineup construction or management of the pitching staff since taking over in 2018.
Boone will be back in 2024 for the final year of his contract, after signing an extension following the 2024 season. Ausmus was hired last week to replace Carlos Mendoza, who was hired to be the Mets manager.
