Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman have heard constant criticism from fans in recent years, and C-Mac says it has gone entirely too far.
For C-Mac, there was no better example than Sunday’s loss to the Twins, when all of the anger was geared at Aaron Boone for pulling Domingo German before the Cubs rallied for a win, or at Brian Cashman for constructing a roster that entered the All-Star break on the outside looking in at a playoff spot. Why the anger at Boone and Cashman, and not at the players who couldn’t get the job done, specifically Gleyber Torres, who booted what would have been an inning-ending double play after German was pulled, with the Yanks still leading 4-1?
“Every single game, we gotta break down how Brian Cashman is the reason this game was lost…and it’s Boone’s decision, and that’s the reason they lost, because Boone is an idiot, and it’s Cashman’s fault because he put together the team. it’s every single loss. It’s never about Gleyber Torres kicking the ball, or that relief pitcher hung a slider on an 0-2 count. It’s always this overarching conversation about the Stanton trade.
“They lose a game, and I gotta hear about the Stanton trade from five years ago! Sometimes, the players just suck that night…it’s part of the problem, and it’s why they’re a bad team right now.”
Cashman and Boone should certainly not be shielded from criticism, but C-Mac says the tirades toward Yankees leadership after any loss during a 162-game season is long past getting old.
“Every single loss, it’s some sort of deep dive into every root problem they had,” C-Mac said. “Every loss, it’s about how Stick Michael built the core of the ‘90s teams. It’s crazy talk. It drives me nuts.”
