Aaron Boone was ejected in the ninth inning of Friday’s loss to the Red Sox, arguing balls and strikes that began with a low strike call to Aaron Judge that resulted in a strikeout in the bottom of the eighth.
Boone said after the game that the team has contacted the league about Judge, who has had more strike calls below the zone than any other player in the league since 2017, but doesn’t know what else they could do beyond that at this point.
“Judge, Rizzo, Carpenter,” Boone said. “Balls are low.
“I get asked a lot.
I don't know. I don't know. I talk to people, they're doing the best they can.
I don't know.”
While Judge decides to keep his cool and let Boone do the arguing for him, he appreciates his manager standing up for the missed calls that the team is waiting to see addressed by major league umpires.
“It’s gonna be him or it’s gonna be me,” Judge said. “I appreciate him standing up for us and speaking our mind, how we’re all feeling. He’s done that quite a bit for us over his career with us.”
