Angry Aaron Boone slams table after latest Yankee loss: 'I gotta quit answering these questions'

Many have been wanting to see more emotion and realism from Aaron Boone during the Yankees’ maddening fall from grace, as Saturday’s loss continued a slide from the best team in baseball to the worst team in baseball this month.

After another frustrating 5-2 loss that yielded little offense, Boone finally began to show some public frustration with how his club has been performing, slamming his hand down on the table in the press room inside Yankee Stadium while discussing the Yankees’ inability to put runs on the board.

“I gotta quit answering these questions about this gate and this perplexion,” Boone said. “We gotta play better, period. And the great thing is, it’s right in front of us! It’s right here! And we can fix it.”

The Yankees have looked like a shell of themselves for six weeks, as the division lead has shrunk to seven games after sitting at 15.5 on July 8. It finally seems to be wearing on Boone, who is notoriously optimistic when behind a microphone, but clearly, the Yankees’ current dreadful stretch calls for something more.

“It’s right here. It’s there, and we can run away with this thing,” Boone said. “We’ve got the dudes in there to do it. we gotta do it. If we don’t score, tough to win. And I’ll answer these same questions. Am I perplexed? Yeah. We gotta do better.

“The good thing is, we are in first place. And we got the pen…we get to write the script the rest of the way. Nobody else can get in our way if we play our game. And that’s what we gotta do. We gotta stop talking about it.”
