Aaron Hicks says season is over after injuring knee in outfield collision: 'Extremely disappointing'

The Yankees are moving on to the ALCS, but Aaron Hicks’ playoff run stopped in Tuesday’s game five clincher in the ALDS.

After a collision in shallow left field with Oswaldo Cabrera on a pop fly that dropped in and led to the Guardians’ only run, Hicks was taken out of the game, and he told reporters after the win that his season is over.

“I’m gonna be out for six weeks. I guess my season’s over,” Hicks said.

“Extremely disappointing. This is something special and I wanna be a part of it. now I’m no longer gonna be able to play on the field and do my best to help this team win and win a World Series. Now I gotta watch on the sidelines.”

The Yankees won’t get reinforcements for Hicks in the form of Andrew Benintendi, as Aaron Boone said after the game that he would not be part of the ALCS roster. But DJ LeMahieu, Frankie Montas, and Ron Marinaccio are all in play to be on the roster.

But for Hicks, a frustrating season comes to a deflating end.
