'No sign of progress' in talks with Aaron Judge as arbitration hearing arrives

The Yankees and Aaron Judge are set to have their arbitration hearing on Wednesday, and according to Jon Heyman, there doesn’t seem to be much hope that the Yanks will be able to avoid the hearing with their homegrown superstar.

Per Heyman, there has been “no sign of progress in talks yet” when it comes to the $4 million difference between what the Yanks offered and what Judge’s camp asked for in terms of Judge’s 2022 salary, his final year of arbitration. New York offered $17 million, while Judge countered with $21 million.

Per league rules, the hearing shouldn’t include discussion about this year’s production, as the hearings were supposed to be concluded before the start of the season, before the lockout delayed them. That means Judge’s current historic season shouldn’t be considered when determining how much the Yankees will pay, but Judge also played a full season last year and hit nearly 40 home runs.

This is the last scheduled arbitration hearing across the league this year.
